Twin River Consulting is a rights-based consulting firm working solely for the First Nations and Metis peoples throughout Canada.
Twin River and its predecessor Fish Creek Consulting have 20 years’ history helping First Nations and Metis Communities with Environmental and Impact Assessments; Consulting and Negotiations regarding land claims and infringements on Aboriginal and Treaty rights; and Historical and Current Traditional Land Use Studies.
It has been our experience that Traditional Land Use Studies are fundamental in determining the extent of Aboriginal Rights. When done properly, they are very powerful consultation tools for negotiating development, Treaty land entitlements, or any type of infringement that may occur to your people and traditional lands.
Twin River includes James (Jim) Tanner (Principal Consultant), April Tanner (Consulting, Research and Writing) , Terri Quintal, Fred Taylor (Geographic Information Systems Services) and Julie Haskill (Creative Design and Presentation).
Creating maps depicting historical and current traditional territories and land use are a major aspect of the studies we produce.
Our Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist utilizes research and mapping data, along with oral knowledge from Elder and traditional land user interviews, to depict current and historic land use activities; locations and harvests.
Our GIS department consistently collaborates with team members and clients to ensure that First Nation land use is clearly and beautifully illustrated on digital maps, in order to capture, analyze, and understand the patterns and relationship of First Nations People to their traditional lands.
